So it’s definitely been a little quiet around the AOP website and office lately, at least as far as new material for our existing lines. It’s been a crazy and frustrating 2014, with a lot of projects getting derailed, taking more time then we had hoped, being hampered by cash-flow issues, etc. Hardly a banner year. And it’s in an effort make sure 2015 is a much better year that I (Hal Mangold, the Overmind) have lent my assistance to my friends over at Atlas Games as they bring back one of the coolest games of the 1990’s, Feng Shui. Feng Shui was the first game I ever wrote for, and it has a place in my gaming heart right next to RuneQuest and Call of Cthulhu as the RPGs that shaped my non F20 gaming experiences. The opportunity to work on it was too good to pass up, both creatively, and in terms of the resources my participation could provide to get Atomic Overmind Press back up and running effectively. We’ve done even better than I could have possibly hoped. The new edition, Feng Shui 2, is already funded, and rolling into the last couple days of its Kickstarter. There are a ton of cool rewards and accessories for whatever level you care to back it at, and I’d personally appreciate the support. Here’s a little more about the game:

FS2_3D_Front_FINALEunuch sorcerers. Slick conspirators. Cyborg apes. Control freak monks. Armed with the secrets of Feng Shui, all aim to conquer the past, present, and future. Only you have the guts, guns, and flying feet to stop them!

It’s back in all its explodey, chi-blasting glory: Feng Shui, the classic game of Hong Kong-inspired cinematic action, refurbished with a fresh bag of ammo for a new roleplaying generation! Original designer Robin D. Laws rushes your way on a bullet-riddled gurney to serve up the thrills fans remember, furiouser and faster than ever.

  • Choose between a wide array of action flick archetypes. Be an icy-cool killer, a determined martial artist, a maverick cop, a crusty old master, a clanking cyborg, a highway ronin, or a melancholy ghost.
  • Fight with free-flowing bravura! Lay low mooks, foes and bosses with guns, fu, magic, monster powers or the genetic mutations of a blasted future. Deploy smarts and skill to find your next fight!
  • Bolster your abilities by capturing special sites of power, the key to the chi war that secretly commands history’s course.
  • Journey through time portals from contemporary Hong Kong to the Tang Dynasty, from the rebellion-soaked Opium Wars era to scorched, post-apocalyptic roadways.

Loaded with Game Moderator advice, easier to run than ever, and including a fully fleshed out, mayhem-rich introductory adventure, Feng Shui 2 is more than ready for you. Are you ready for it?

You can find the project page here: The success of this project will have a concretely positive effect on the future of Atomic Overmind Press. Thank you for your support, and don’t worry, there’s a lot more Atomic Overmind Press material to come!

Things have been a little quiet on The Day After Ragnarok front  since the release of the Fate Core edition, but we’re proud to announce that big things are afoot this Spring…

Who goes into the belly of the Midgard Serpent?

Who dares the horrors from before the Jurassic dawned — from before the gods died?

Who brings the terror and the poison of Jörmungandr into the light of science?

Who takes the deadly technologies built from such things back into the darkness?

You do.

You are the heroes of S Detachment, the speleo-herpetologists, the snake-caving warrior-scientists who explore the unknown to build the future.

The Speleo-Herpetol0gist’s Handbook  opens up the biggest, deadliest, most poisonous dungeon ever — the 2,500-mile long body of the dead Midgard Serpent — to adventure and horror. Loathsome new monsters, deadly ophi-tech, and complete adventure support in  The Day After Ragnarok style all wait for you … inside!

Ian “Lizard” Harac explores the inner recesses of the snake that smashed the world, in this 32 page supplement for Kenneth Hite’s The Day After Ragnarok.

hplff_ks_poster_siteteaserWe’re proud to announce that Tour de Lovecraft: The Tales and Cthulhu 101 author Kenneth Hite is a Guest of Honor at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon held this weekend (Friday, April 11-Sunday, April 13) in Portland, Oregon! In addition to soaking in the Lovecraftian atmosphere, Ken will be appearing on a number of panels, as well as delivering the keynote address Saturday evening. From Ken’s Livejournal, here is his schedule for the show:

9:00-10:00 p.m. Panel: Beyond the Tentacles: Summoning the Spirit of Lovecraft on the Tabletop
What makes a game truly Lovecraftian? (Kenneth Hite, Sandy Petersen, Scott Glancy, Keith Baker) (EOD Center Main Stage)

2:00-3:00 p.m. Panel: History and Lovecraft: The Eugenics Climate in Turn-of-the-Century USA
Although Lovecraft’s ideas about race sound strange and even repulsive to modern audiences, the United States in the 1920s was awash with eugenics ideas. How did Darwinism, health policy (such as the Racial Integrity Act of 1924) and science shape Lovecraft’s vision? And how can we approach this delicate topic without declaring Lovecraft simply a “man of his time” and dismiss any modern concerns his writing may produce? (Silvia Moreno-Garcia, S. T. Joshi, Sean Hoade, Kenneth Hite) (EOD Center Main Stage)

7:00-7:30 p.m. Keynote
Apparently, I’m delivering the keynote address. Since the festival is focusing on “Dreams in the Witch-House,” my topic will be “The Witch-Cult in Western Europe in H.P. Lovecraft.” I’ll be sure to plug WildClaw Theatre. (Main Screen)

9:00-10:00 p.m. Panel: R’lyehian Roulette
In this crazy event, panelists are given a rapid-fire selection of Lovecraftian topics, and have only 5 minutes to speak on each subject. This will be an information dump of Cyclopean proportions from some of the most brilliant people in the room. (Cody Goodfellow, Michael Cisco, Kenneth Hite, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Scott Glancy.) (EOD Center Classroom)

9:00 PM – 10:00 p.m. Panel: Cultists, Crosses, and Superstition
A discussion of the depiction of religion in Lovecraft’s stories. (Mike Davis, Robert M. Price, Edward Morris, Kenneth Hite) (EOD Center Main Stage)

While Atomic Overmind Press will not be represented there officially, the fine people over at Portland’s Guardian Games are repping us at the show, and will have an array of Ken’s Lovecraftian works available for sale over near the gaming area. In addition to his AOP books, they’ll also have copies of (his Lovecraftian children’s books from our friends over at Atlas Games, and the hard-to-find Dubious Shards. Additionally, they’ll have Robin Laws’ New Tales of the Yellow Sign available. Copies of all the books are limited. Have a great time at the show!

CiWMAtomic Overmind Press is proud to announce the long-awaited electronic publication of Jason Colavito’s Cthulhu in World Mythology!

Denied by generations of scholars as mere fiction, astonishing new mythological and archaeological evidence proves that an advanced and ancient global cult spread the worship of the octopus-headed Great Cthulhu and his Old Ones to every corner of the prehistoric world—and gives a shockingly eldritch and miasmal cast to some of history’s most important mythological tales. Why is it that the Greeks feared a terrible monster with writhing tentacles? Why did peoples of the Pacific build cyclopean stone “Houses of the Octopus” to enact the periodic resurrection of that strange mollusk?

Profound and persuasive, Jason Colavito’s historical bombshell Cthulhu in World Mythology is the result of the author’s lifelong pursuit of the truth behind the widespread allusions to Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep, Azathoth, and the Old Ones in world literature. The author masterfully weaves together (in alphabetical order) ancient history, anthropology, archaeology, art history, astrology, astronomy, Atlantis theory, demonology, linguistics, literary theory, mythology, the occult, religious studies, and xenoarchaeology to tell the hidden history of early humanity.

Cthulhu in World Mythology author Jason Colavito was interviewed by the finefolks over at RandomHouse’s science fiction site  Check it out for even more information and background on his development and writing of this monumental work.

Kindle users can purchase Cthulhu in World Mythology over at  If the Nook is your reader of choice, you can find the book at the Barnes & Noble online store. Finally, both EPUB and mobi formats are available in the Atomic Overmind webstore. A PDF release will follow next week, with a print release later on in March 2014.
